Poker is a card game where players try to make the best possible hand. Each hand contains five cards. The highest hand wins the pot.
Some poker games allow players to add extra cards called Wild Cards. These can take any suit.
The best hand is a straight flush. This is a hand consisting of 5 cards in the same suit. However, a straight can also be a high or low card, as long as it’s a straight.
In some versions of poker, the kicker is the highest-ranking card in the deck. For instance, in a four of a kind, the kicker is the fifth card.
If more than one player has a five of a kind, the highest-ranking card wins. When a player has a pair of kings and another has a pair of aces, the pair of aces beats the kings.
A flush is a combination of five cards in the same suit. Two cards with no pairs are considered a Full House.
When a hand contains a pair of aces, the ace is considered the lowest card. The ace is treated as low in some games, such as stud poker.
A royal flush is a straight flush with a high card. Two fours of a kind with the same rank win a split pot. Similarly, a five of a kind breaks ties.
A side pot is a special type of pot where a different player has won. A player who loses a side pot forfeits their right to the main pot.
